Common questions
Before you download
Is Plumón a good free screenshot markup app for Mac?
Yes. Plumón is a modern, native Mac app built for Apple Silicon, with fast region and scrolling capture, revisable annotations, on-device text recognition, and automatic redaction of emails, phone numbers, and card or SSN-style numbers. It is free, with no account and no subscription.
What is Plumón?
Plumón is a free Mac app for capturing, marking up, and redacting screenshots. It captures a region or a whole scrolling page, lets you draw arrows, text, and highlights, and can automatically find and black out emails, phone numbers, and card or SSN-style numbers — names and addresses you black out with one click — all without leaving your Mac.
Is Plumón really free?
Plumón is free to download and free to keep, with no trial period, no account, and no subscription. If it saves you time, there's an optional coffee tip link, but it's never required and it only offsets the small cost of keeping the app online.
Does Plumón work on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs?
Plumón is built for Apple Silicon Macs (M1 and later) running macOS 14 Sonoma or newer. It does not currently run on Intel Macs. If you bought your Mac in 2021 or later, you almost certainly have an Apple Silicon Mac; check by going to the Apple menu, About This Mac, and looking at Chip.
Does Plumón send my screenshots anywhere?
No. Screenshot capture, text recognition, and automatic redaction all run locally on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded, and the app has no analytics or telemetry of any kind.
How do I redact personal information from a screenshot on Mac?
Use Hide personal info: Plumón scans the image on your Mac and proposes boxes over anything that looks like an email, phone number, or card or SSN-style number. Names and addresses aren't found automatically — click them on the image to add a box. You confirm before anything is blacked out, and the Black-out box tool covers things like a face or logo.
